KEMER VILLAS
The Mediterranean Sea, the cobalt blue line, is not just an identity but a journey in itself.
For this project, we drew from the deep roots of the local Mediterranean culture, with its Persian, Ottoman, and Byzantine influences, to create architecture that is elegant and sophisticated, and also minimal and contemporary.
The result is a series of interconnected eco-housing units of distinct, pure white masses, in the great tradition of the Turkish coastal cities, such as the old city of Izmir with its traditional whitewash architecture, and the hanging houses on Bodrum’s hills.
The geometric forms feature bleached wood lattices that filter the light and materialize architecture by creating thin shadows.
Our goal was to reinvent Turkish modernity by revisiting vernacular architecture, using local resources, materials, and thermal waters.
This concept is adhered to throughout the entire experience, from architecture to furniture and lights, and from branding and tableware to, of course, food.
All of the furniture is made by local artisans, and the driftwood pieces bring natural and authentic touches to the spaces, and recall the original meaning of Mediterranean: between sea and land.
The wood and whitewash create a rhythm to the sensorial experience of the rooms, while the elaborate vines and tree stumps are re-worked through a contemporary prism. Additional outdoor showers, open to the sky, reframe the preserved natural landscape, continuing the harmonious experience with nature.
In this project, we aimed to bring a new approach, between tradition and modernity, by selecting the best of both, and opening new horizons to create dreamlike and timeless architecture.
